Here’s how we’re trying to making a difference:

1. Sustainable Sourcing

We try our best to source a proportion of all our florals from British suppliers. British flowers travel less miles and British Flower Farmers are usually growing using much more sustainable practices which align with our way of thinking. I even grow a few blooms in my garden too! I would love to grow more, and buy all my blooms from British farmers but currently it just isn't possible with UK seasons, weather and the quantities being grown at the moment.

2. Plastic-Free Methods

At Roses + Riffraff we do not use floral foam which is made of plastics and great . We have learnt and adapted plastic free methods to create gorgeous florals - often going back to tried + tested methods our grandmothers and great-grandmothers would have used. Our faves include jam jars, twine,  moss + chicken wire. 

Alongside this, we try and not use plastics elsewhere. We have done away with the cleaning product bottles, plastic sponges, plastic bags amongst other bits + pieces. Also we have reduced use of other items such as zip ties, plastic based tapes etc. where we can.

3. Eco-Friendly Packaging

Our packaging is made from recycled materials or is recyclable or compostable. I will then reuse items as many times as I can, then repurpose! I am usually packing all my vases away with recycled paper and cardboard boxes from my online shopping... 

We encourage you to recycle or reuse our packaging, helping to keep waste out of landfills and reducing unnecessary consumption.

4. Reducing Waste

We aim to create as little waste as possible by repurposing any leftovers or unused materials in creative ways. Whether it's making smaller floral arrangements from left overs or donating surplus items, we believe in finding ways to reuse and recycle. Additionally, we are composting and recycling, ensuring that all waste is disposed of responsibly.

5. Support for Green Initiatives

We believe in supporting organisations and initiatives that align with our values. If we can utilise local organisations and those with similar aspirations, we will do our best! Supporting each other is how we can build a movement towards more eco-conscious behaviours.
